Questions? We have answers:

How do I know if I'm in perimenopause, menopause or postmenopause?

Menopause technically lasts for only one day, which is the day you have been 12 consecutive months without a menstrual cycle. The time until this day is 'perimenopause' and the time after this day is 'postmenopause'. Perimenopause is the first stage of the menopause transition, which is the natural decline of ovarian function, where oestrogen production decreases and ovulation stops. It is a delicate period that usually begins 4-10 years before menopause, when the ovaries gradually produce less oestrogen, progesterone and testosterone. 'Menopause' is the day when a woman has gone without a menstrual period for 12 consecutive months and the ovaries have stopped releasing eggs. Postmenopause is the next day after menopause and beyond.

How do I store my probiotics?

Probiotics are very sensitive to heat and warm air, so keep your pouch away from any warm air or moisture, including radiators, steam from a kettle or showers in a bathroom. If at all uncertain, store in your fridge if it is frost-free.

Can I take Gut Works® alongside Debloat & Detox?

Yes, Debloat & Detox and Gut Works® can be taken together and are very commonly done so to provide complete daily support for your gut health and gut microbiome. They also form our bestselling Gut Health Bundle.

When is the best time to take your Gut Works® gut health supplement?

Gut health supplements should be taken at least 20 minutes before or after hot food or drinks and ideally on an empty stomach. Probiotics are extremely sensitive to heat, which is why it's important to take them well before or after any hot food or drink. You can take your Gut Works® capsule at any time of day.

Also remember to store your pouch and refillable pill tin in a cool, dry place and away from warm air, moisture or direct heat.

Can probiotics and Gut Works® be taken over the long term?

This is a common question about probiotics. Whilst there can be some exceptions to this rule, the general answer is yes, it’s safe and often recommended to take your probiotics daily to keep your gut microbiome healthy.

Can my child take Gut Works®?

Although our supplements are formulated for adults, Gut Works® is safe for teenagers and older children, subject of course to the child being of average size and weight for their age. Gut Works® is a high-strength probiotic, so we would advise for a child under the age of 13 to look at a child-friendly probiotic.

Need advice? No problem, you can email our expert nutritionists at [email protected] who are always happy to help and advise.

Can I take MenoFriend® with the mini pill?

MenoFriend® is often taken alongside the mini pill (progesterone only). There are a few minor drug-nutrient interactions with this combination, so we recommend taking MenoFriend® and the mini pill at opposite times of the day. We always recommend consulting with your GP or healthcare practitioner before taking supplements if you're on medication, including the mini pill.

Can I take MenoFriend® with the combined pill?

We do not recommend taking MenoFriend® with the combined pill due to interactions between the ingredients in MenoFriend® that may affect the contraceptive pill.

When is the best time to take menopause supplements like MenoFriend®?

Menopause supplements can be taken at any time of the day. The most common time to take MenoFriend® is in the evenings. However, you can take your two MenoFriend® capsules together or separately, in the mornings, daytime or evening. It is a case of learning and adapting to what works best for you and your body.

To enjoy the benefits of MenoFriend®, it's important to take two capsules consistently each day.

How long can you take MenoFriend® for?

MenoFriend® is formulated so you can thrive through menopause and postmenopause. MenoFriend® is safe to take for as long as necessary and it is helping you thrive. We always advise that if you don't feel you need to take supplements, that is a good thing, so it can be a good idea to stop taking supplements if you don't feel you need them and if you feel you've achieved your health goal.

How long does it take for MenoFriend® to work?

The time it takes to feel a difference from taking any supplements varies by individual due to many factors including the stage of menopause, age, weight, diet and the foods you eat, lifestyle, exercise and other factors.

Can I take MenoFriend® if I've had a hysterectomy?

MenoFriend®️ may be suitable for signs of menopause after a hysterectomy. A full hysterectomy often causes a person to go into surgical menopause immediately when the ovaries have been removed. It is also possible for one or both ovaries to be left intact after a hysterectomy. Ovaries are responsible for producing oestrogen and progesterone. If you still retain your ovaries, you will experience menopause as normal.

Can I take my MenoFriend® menopause supplement with HRT?

MenoFriend® supports a more comfortable menopause and is often taken alongside HRT, however we always recommend consulting with your GP or healthcare practitioner before taking supplements if you're on HRT or medication.

We provide high-quality dietary supplements and foods. We cannot give medical advice. We would advise anyone to seek guidance from their GP or healthcare practitioner if there are any concerns using supplements when on HRT.

Are menopause supplements safe?

Most menopause supplements are safe when taken as directed and chosen carefully. We always recommend looking for products that are made with high-quality ingredients and free from unnecessary additives. Safety also depends on your individual health, so it’s best to review your supplements with a healthcare professional, especially if you’re on other medications or have underlying conditions.

When should you start taking menopause supplements?

You can start menopause supplements at any stage, whether you’re in perimenopause (when symptoms first appear) or postmenopause - if they’re appropriate for your needs. The 'right' time is when you start noticing changes to your body and mood. A tailored approach based on your signs and nutritional gaps works best.

Can menopause supplements cause weight gain?

Generally, menopause supplements do not directly cause weight gain. Hormonal changes during this life stage can make weight management more challenging, but most quality supplements are designed to support balance, not add extra calories. If anything, the right nutrients may help maintain a healthy metabolism, support energy and reduce signs of menopause that make it harder to stay active.

Should I take gut health supplements?

Gut health supplements can be helpful if you’re experiencing symptoms like bloating, irregular bowel movements, food intolerances or frequent digestive discomfort. They can also be beneficial if you’ve recently taken antibiotics, have high stress levels or want to support your immune system. Supplements work best alongside a balanced diet rich in fibre, diverse plant foods and adequate hydration. If your gut symptoms are persistent or severe, it’s worth checking for underlying conditions before starting a supplement.

What do gut health supplements do and how do they work?

Most gut health supplements, like probiotics, prebiotics or digestive enzymes work by supporting the balance of your gut microbiome or helping your body break down and absorb food more effectively. Probiotics introduce beneficial bacteria, prebiotics feed those bacteria so they thrive, and digestive enzymes assist in breaking down proteins, fats and carbohydrates. Together, they can improve digestion, support nutrient absorption, reduce bloating and enhance overall gut function.

What does lactobacillus do in the gut?

Lactobacilli bacteria live in our digestive, urinary and genital systems and can be found in fermented foods such as yoghurt. Different strains of Lactobacilli bacteria support different functions in the body. Discover more about the most common strains of live cultures.

Which lactobacillus is best for gut health?

Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus rhamnosus, Lactobacillus casei and Lactobacillus plantarum. You can find all 4 of these strains in Gut Works® along with Bifidobacterium Lactis, Streptococcus Thermophilus, Psyllium Husk powder and Inulin.

How to increase bifidobacterium in the gut?

Bifidobacterium bacteria live in our intestines as lactic acid bacteria and can also be found in fermented foods.

Is inulin good for gut health?

Inulin is a gut-friendly fibre that helps friendly, active bacteria in your gut to grow. Inulin is a 'prebiotic', and prebiotics are vital to the health of probiotics.
